The Munich metropolitan region as a great place to live: The community of Putzbrunn

The metropolis of Munich has a lot to offer, but there's also plenty to discover and experience in the neighborhoods and communities around Munich's city center. As part of our "Munich as a Great Place to Live" series, we show you different things to do in your time off, whether they be part of nature, culture, sports, or entertainment. This month we would like to introduce you to a few leisure time highlights in the community of Putzbrunn, in the southeast of Munich.

Tasty treats

If you’re looking for delicious treats at a good price at one of the lesser-known locations in and around Munich, look no further. Putzbrunn has plenty to offer. The Alte Wirt is the oldest restaurant in the community. Here you can enjoy authentic, traditional and local cuisine with a pinch of coziness. Ristorante San Daniele provides true Italian–Mediterranean flair with its inexpensive daily specials and national treats. And you don’t have to spend much money to enjoy a delicious meal and good service at Gasthaus Waldpark.

Highlights: A wide range of restaurants serving Bavarian, Italian, French, Asian and cosmopolitan cuisine with excellent service.

Staying fit in the area

Those who wish to stay active will have no troubles doing so in Putzbrunn. The community boasts a number of sports clubs with a wide range of activities. In addition to soccer and volleyball, the Putzbrunner Sportverein offers theater, gymnastics, skiing, alpine sports and table tennis. Tennis fans will get their fill at the Tennisclub Putzbrunn, and golfers won’t have to travel far either: the Harthausen golf course is just a six-minute drive away. Equestrians will be happy to know that there is a riding school in neighboring Grasbrunn.

Highlights: The Wilderernest Oedenstockach e.V. And Wendlstoana Putzbrunn e.V. gun clubs give shooting sports fans two different options right in Putzbrunn.

Culture and tradition

You can learn traditional Bavarian dance in Putzbrunn at Volkstanz- und Brauchtumsverein Putzbrunn e.V., a club dedicated to the preservation of Bavarian tradition, particularly traditional alpine dance. The club hosts open dance evenings that give attendees the opportunity to dance to live music, as well as seasonal festivals that are open to the public, such as the traditional spring and autumn dances. The Bürgerhaus is home to a theater where cultural events – such as cabaret, concerts and youth theater – are held regularly.

Highlights: In 2018, the Bavarian cabaret artists Gerhard Polt and Willy Astor will grace the Putzbrunn Bürgerhaus with their presence, performing their latest material.

A hop, skip and a jump to the Alpine foothills

It takes some people hours to reach the beautiful Bavarian Alpine foothills. But from Putzbrunn, it doesn’t take long to get to the area’s many skiing and hiking areas and Bavarian lakes. The lakes of Tegernsee, Chiemsee and Schliersee are about a 45-minute drive away, and it takes just an hour and a half to get to the Karwendel mountains or Berchtesgaden National Park. The Lenggries, Oberaudorf and Wendelstein skiing areas are also around just 45 minutes away.

Highlights: Many skiing areas can be reached easily via the A8.

It takes around 30 minutes to get to the community of Putzbrunn from downtown Munich by car via the A94 and A99 or by public transport.

We wish you plenty of enjoyment as you discover this multifaceted community.
