The Munich metropolitan region as a great place to live: Milbertshofen-Am Hart

The metropolis of Munich has a lot to offer, but there's also plenty to discover and experience in the neighborhoods around Munich's city center. As part of our "Munich as a Great Place to Live" series, we show you different things to do in your time off, whether they be part of nature, culture, sports, or entertainment. This month we present recreational highlights to be found in the neighborhood of Milbertshofen-Am Hart:

Shopping

The shopping is incredible at the MIRA shopping center near Dülferstraße. You'll enjoy the ideal conditions for a long shopping spree among a vast range of different shops set in modern architecture. They have everything you need day-to-day and a lot more: from food, fashion and jewelry, and electronics to pharmacies, physicians, and a car care service. There are even a number of restaurants where you can enjoy culinary specialties in a pleasant ambiance.

Highlights: The shopping center has disabled access and is easily reached by MVV.

Leaping High

Jumping enthusiasts and adrenaline junkies of all ages get their money's worth at Bavaria's first trampoline park. The Air Hop trampoline park recently opened on Ingolstädter Straße. Air Hop covers 3,400 m2 and offers not only an XXL trampoline area with 70 trampolines, but any number of action park features as well. There's plenty of room for active fun on the 3D Dodgeball field, the Basketball Slam Dunk for people bold enough to try tricky jumps, and the "Wipe Out" party game. Jumping fun time for the little "MINI Air Hoppers" is reserved every Monday and Wednesday from 9:30 am to 4 pm.

Highlights: The park also offers a 45-minute intensive "Air Fit Program" for fitness fans.

Zooming Off

BMW Welt is both architecturally fascinating and has a lot to discover. Here you can check out the newest BMW, MINI and Rolls-Royce models and brands with all your senses. The BMW Museum features regularly changing exhibits revolving around the history of the different brands. More than 125 original BMW brand cars are on display. At present, there's a special exhibition, "100 Masterpieces", running until 9/30/2017 to mark the 100th anniversary of the BMW brand. The exhibition shows 100 highlights from the brand history of the Munich-based carmaker, including cars, motorcycles and plane engines.

Highlights: The last Sunday of every month is Family Day, which includes reduced-price admission, workshops, change of shows and free guided tours.

On the Go for Sports

The 850,000 m2 Olympiapark is a true paradise of opportunities for sports enthusiasts. In addition to jogging paths there are extensive paths for inline skating or Nordic walking. In good weather, you can take a boat ride on Olympiasee. Whether it's football in the SoccArena, ice skating in the ice rink, water sports in the indoor Olympia swimming pool, playing tennis or minigolf, there's something for everyone.

Highlights: From the pavilion roof of the Olympia Stadium, you can take a guided tour or a Flying Fox zipline flight through the stadium at 35 meters' altitude.

Gastronomy

In addition to famous restaurants like the Restaurant 181 in the Olympiaturm, the Restaurant Olympiasee and the Bavariae in BMW Welt, the neighborhood of Milbertshofen-Am Hart has a lot of other gastronomical highlights to discover. One insider tip is the "Leoli", a Vietnamese restaurant on Riesenfeldstraße with delicious, reasonably priced dishes. As its name suggests, the bratwurst cellar "Kultbrettl" near the Petuelring has attained cult status. The house butcher ensures that all sausages and burgers are fresh. Somewhat hidden in a back courtyard on Frohschammerstraße you'll find "La Casina", a cozy Italian restaurant with a southern flair and a menu that changes daily.

Highlights: The district of Milbertshofen also offers a broad range of Bavarian, Italian and Asian restaurants.

You can easily reach Milbertshofen from Munich's central train station by subway in only 9 minutes ("Milbertshofen" subway station), and the "Olympiazentrum" station in just 10 minutes. We wish you plenty of enjoyment as you discover this multifaceted neighborhood.
